Fire Forces Evacuation at Macaroni Grill

No injuries reported in kitchen blaze

 

A kitchen fire forced an evacuation of Macaroni Grill at SouthPark Mall Monday afternoon, Fire Chief Jeff Branic said.

Branic said the fire, reported at 1 p.m., started on a stove burner.

When staff was unable to extinguish it, management evacuated the restaurant and called firefighters, who used dry chemical extinguishers and also manually activated the built-in suppression system.

There were no injuries.

Branic said the fire was contained to the hood system of the cooking area and did not spread to the structure of the building.
