Kind Officer Helps Woman in Wheelchair Get Lunch: Best of the Blotter

Here are some of the most interesting police reports and incidents from departments across the region

Here are this week's most bizarre police calls, reports and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Finally, some good police news - A concerned witness alerted Strongsville police to a woman in a wheelchair riding in the street shortly before noon Jan. 27.

The woman told police although the sidewalks were mainly clear, they were still slushy and her electric wheelchair was getting stuck.

The officer drove behind the woman as she went so she could get a pizza for lunch, then followed her back to her apartment to make sure she got home safely.

These coaches really fight or their players - Two basketball coaches, one from Strongsville, were issued minor misdemeanor citations for disorderly conduct after they got into a fight during a youth basketball game in Twinsburg

The fight occured during a youth basketball tournament on Jan. 26 at the Edge Sports Performance Academy on Ravenna Road.

A witness to the fight called 911 at about 1:46 p.m. to report the fight, which began after the coaches started arguing about the game.

One of the coaches told police that the other man threw him to the ground. Police officers saw blood on the right hand and nose of one of the coaches. The fight was broken up by other coaches.

The cat came back to life - A woman called Lakewood police at around 2 p.m. Jan. 2 and said that she thought her cat might be dead.

She told police she was too drunk to call the animal warden. She called back later and said that her cat was fine.

Please unlock my car with drugs in it - On Jan. 24, a 30-year-old Akron woman called Bath Township police because she locked her keys in her car.

When officers arrived and got the woman's door open, the smell of marijuana wafted out of the car. When police asked the woman if she had any, she admitted there was a marijuana roach in the ashtray.

Police charged the woman with drug abuse and she was released at the scene.
