Police Blotter: Guy Reports He's Being Chased, and He Is -- By Police

Security officers at a Whitney Road apartment complex called police about 3:45 a.m. Feb. 22 to report they were chasing a man who had run from them in the parking lot.

Police brought in a dog to track the suspect.

But a few minutes later, a man called 911 from an apartment and said he was being chased by a van in the parking lot.

Here's the story: The man told police he was walking through the parking lot on his way to Walmart. He saw the van approach him and -- not realizing it was security -- got alarmed and ran away.

When he saw it was following him, he ran back into his apartment and called 911.

Kids Stare at House

A Brookstone Way woman reported that three teenagers were staring at her neighbor's house about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

When she backed out of her driveway, they threw a rock at her car, which missed. Then they ran away.

Officers couldn't locate the kids.

Drive-By Dumping

Every week, on the night before refuse pickup, someone in a dark-colored car drives by a Hunt Road address and throws a bag out trash out the window, a resident reported Feb. 21.

The bags open and leave trash in the ditch and on the street.

Police found several open garbage bags and quite a bit of trash around. They advised the Service Department of the mess.

A Little Protection, Please

A Columbia Gas employee asked an officer to escort him to a Shurmer Road home Feb. 22 because the resident, who had not paid his bill, allegedly said he would shoot anyone who tried to turn his gas off.

An officer spoke with the resident on the phone and learned the man wasn't home at the time.

Columbia Gas also spoke with the man and agreed to try to work out the situation rather than turn off the gas.

Above and Beyond

Officers helped out a Blodgett Creek resident after her microwave started acting up.

The woman said Feb. 22 the oven made a weird noise, sparked, then shut off. She was worried because it was on a high shelf and she couldn't unplug it.

Police went over and helped her get it unplugged.
