Police Blotter: Hacker Asks Facebook Friends for Money

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Friends of a Pebblestone Court woman got messages through email and on Facebook that she was in trouble and needed money, according to a police report.

The woman told police Oct. 20 someone hacked into her accounts and sent out the phony message.

So far, no one had responded with any cash.

Police advised her to watch her bank accounts to see if there was any illicit activity.

Two residents reported they were targeted by con artists through the mail.

A Pearl Road woman received a large check Oct. 18. Because she was the victim of a fraud in the past, she knew not to cash it, a report said.

A Fairfield Place resident asked police to check some checks that appeared fraudulent. Police said they were part of a Nigerian money order scam.

Theft from Car

A Penny Pines Circle man told police someone went into his unlocked vehicle and took his cell phone about 2 p.m. Oct. 14.

Woman Walks Funny

A concerned passerby asked police to check on a woman who was walking funny and stepping out into traffic on Pearl Road about 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18.

Police spoke with the woman, who admitted she had been drinking already that morning. However, she did not appear to be drunk and was advised about jaywalking laws.
