Police Blotter: Man Scammed Out of $3,600 by 'FDA;' Driver Hits Tombstone

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

A Strongsville man told police he sent $1,800 -- twice in one day -- to someone who was allegedly trying to deport him.

The man told police he was called by "the FDA" and agreed to send $1,800 via Western Union to the Dominican Republic.

The same day, he sent another $1,800 to an address a caller gave him.

Police said there was little they could do about the international scam, but gave the man advice for the future.

A driver went to the police station July 30 to turn herself in for hitting a tombstone in .

A report said she knocked the tombstone off its base. It landed face-down, but did not appear to be damaged.

Police told her to contact the cemetery sexton.

Chew Stolen

A man went to police July 30 after he saw someone in his car outside about 5:30 p.m.

The guy stole a can of snuff valued at $2 from the vehicle, a report said.

The owner said his car was locked and he didn't know how the thief got in. The alleged thief got into an SUV and left.

A Baby What?

A caller said it looked like there was a baby lying face-down in the creek next to Kemper House on Prospect Road July 30.

Police said it appeared to be a dead possum in the water.
