Police Blotter: Purses Stolen from Cars at Church, Park; 'Profane' Music Blaring

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Someone smashed windows in cars parked at two locations Saturday afternoon, looking for purses.

Police said three people went to their cars at , 21211 Drake Rd. about 5 p.m. and found windows shattered.

Purses were taken from two vehicles; nothing was missing from the other.

About 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, a window was also broken in a car parked at  , 21255 Lunn Rd., and a purse was taken from under the seat.

In that case, the purse was old and didn't contain anything of value. It had been partially visible under the seat.

The thefts were similar to ones reported in late January outside .

Two people left the church on a Sunday evening to find the purses they had left inside their vehicles were missing. In both cases, the thief smashed windows to get inside the cars.

Police say thieves often target outdoor fields, recreation centers and churches because they know women often leave their purses in their cars.

You Call that Music?

Police got multiple reports of a loud party Saturday night from all over the city.

One resident at Chestnut Lake apartments called about 9:30 p.m. and said the music could be traced to Broxton Drive.

A Pearl Road resident complained about "very loud, angry, profane music" in the area about 10 p.m.

Police said it sounded like a concert north of town. Dispatchers then confirmed with Berea police that Rock-a-Palooza was taking place at the fairgrounds.

Suspicious Liquid

Someone left a container of clear liquid outside a garage on Oak Branch Trail Sept. 7.

The liquid had no smell. Police advised a resident to dump it in the yard.


A man reported six helium balloons caught in the electric wires on Prospect Road Sept. 7.

He said he was afraid they could explode or cause a fire.

Police said the Mylar and Happy Birthday balloons did not pose a hazard and probably came from a local business' anniversary celebration.

Car Graffiti

A night maintenance worker at found someone spray painted his vehicle while he was inside the building.

He reported the incident about 11:45 p.m. Sept. 7 and said he believed he could remove the paint.
