Police Blotter: Teen Found Living in Shed

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Police, acting on an anonymous tip, found a 19-year-old living in a shed in a back yard on Meadow Lane Dec. 6.

The caller said the teen has been living there since his parents kicked him out. He had moved his belongings and a kerosene heater into the shed.

A report said the home is for sale and vacant because the owner already moved out of state.

When police visited the shed, they found the teen there. He agreed to leave.

The owner told police he did not want to pursue charges as long as the teen moved out.

Where's the Fire?

A passing motorist reported a "ball of smoke" coming from a garage on Drake Road about 8 a.m. Dec. 5.

Police found very light smoke coming from a gutter. It turned out to be from a dryer vent that goes into the attic.

Early Morning News

A man who walks at 5 a.m. on Brandywine Drive complained to police about a newspaper delivery person who yells at him as she drives past.

The carrier has also complained to police about the walker, saying he should stay out of the road.

Police said they would try to speak with both sides to resolve the ongoing problem.

Suspicious Customer

Employees at chocolates called police about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 about a man who was ranting about the service he received at jewelers.

Employees at Jared, meanwhile, said the man was in the store for several hours, saying he wanted to spend $10,000 on his girlfriend.

He went back to his car without buying anything. They thought it was odd and noted his license plate number.

Neither store wants the man to return. They were told to call police if he does.

What did the police do for the teenager kicked out by his parents and living in a shed? Did they connect him to social services? At least give him a card with some referral numbers on it? How long has this young person been homeless? What do police do to help our city's teenagers and young adults who have been "kicked out" by parents? I know its not their responsibility to tackle domestic issues, but if they are the first point of official contact, I hope they do something to help. What resources does our city have for people in this situation? I'm really curious.

What did the teen do to get kicked out by his parents? That's where the responsibilities are, not with the police. What did you do to help our city's teenagers who have been kicked out of their homes? Why don't you open your door to them?

Well i am the kids brother and he didn't get kicked out he had a choice to say in the house if he stopped doing drugs and stop missing school. No one told him to leave he took it upon himself.

He's an adult and needs to take responsibility for his actions. What kind of generation are you people from who constantly look to entitlements and handouts to take the place of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. No wonder this country is in the financial position it's in.

How sad. Kids on drugs, parents who don't know how to deal with them, so many issues out there and no one wants to take responsibility. When it somes to parents and kids...when they are born YOU mold them, not school, not church, YOU.
