Police Blotter: Teen Knocks over 11 Mailboxes -- From a Bike?

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Residents on Walnut Creek Drive called for help after an 18-year-old riding a bicycle apparently ran into a mailbox about 12:20 a.m. June 19.

The teen was knocked off his bike and shaken, a report said.

But police then noticed that other mailboxes and a lamp post on Walnut Creek, as well as a mailbox on Applewood, were also damaged.

Detective Lt. John Janowski said police believe the teen was kicking over the mailboxes as he rode by.

He was cited for criminal damaging.

Suspicious Smoker

Police found a man hanging around the garbage outside the police station about 11:30 p.m. June 19.

The man said he was picking cigarette butts from the trash to smoke.

Officers Bit

A Meadow Lane family called police because a 44-year-old family member was out of control about 5 p.m. June 18.

During a struggle, the man bit the officers -- one on the finger and the other on the leg.

Neither officer sought treatment right away, but later went to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The suspect was hospitalized and is expected to be charged when he is released.

Boy Trouble

A 13-year-old girl was asking people at for a ride home about 11:30 a.m. June 19.

She refused a ride from a police officer, so he told her to walk home to Deerfield Lakes rather than get in a car with a stranger.

A half hour later, someone else called to say the girl was claiming to be lost.

This time, police made her get in the cruiser and drove her home. She said she had been staying at a friend's house, but they had a fight over a boy, so she left.

The officer made sure she got inside her house safely.
