Police Blotter: Vandal Lets Water Leak, Causes Huge Bill

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

 

A Castlewood Drive family reported that someone took the fittings off their sprinkler system, allowing water to leak out for the last few months.

The vandalism was discovered when they got a very large water bill, a report said.

They suspect a landscaper who wanted their business and didn't get it, but they have no proof.

Someone Sitting in Driveway

A Plymouth Row woman reported someone pulled into her driveway about 9 p.m. Dec. 21 and sat there for 10 minutes without getting out.

The van had left when police arrived, but officers followed tracks in the snow to Framingham, where the driver said she had been waiting for a plow to finish clearing snow from her driveway.

Kids Can Shovel

Police were called to Placid Cove Dec. 21 because a man was threatening two boys who were offering to shovel snow for money.

Officers told the man they boys are allowed to do that.

Welfare Check

Several callers asked police to check on a woman walking on Misty Lake Drive about 11:45 a.m. Dec. 21 -- in the middle of the road, and in bare feet.

Police called paramedics to see if she had frostbite while they tried to locate her family.

About 12:15 p.m., a man reported his 80-year-old grandmother missing from a nearby street, and another family member, who had been out looking for her, arrived on the scene.

The family took the woman home and declined to have her taken to the hospital by the Strongsville Fire Department.

Attempted Robbery

A man tried to rob the Super 8 hotel on Royalton Road shortly before 2 a.m. Dec. 21, a report said.

The robber, wearing a dark winter hat, kept his hand in his pocket during the incident, and scuffled with the employee.

Mailboxes Down

Police found two mailboxes in the middle of Prospect Road about 7 a.m. Dec. 22.

A report said a snow plow was suspected, but then found car parts from a silver Mercedes at the scene.

Package Stolen from Porch

A Whitney Road man told police Dec. 23 someone stole a package from outside his home.

He said it was delivered Dec. 18. He saw it Dec. 19, but forgot to pick it up.

When he went back eight hours later, it was gone.

He said he did not know what was in it, and his sister wouldn't tell him.
