Police Blotter: Vandals Trash a Street; Solicitor Wants to Come in and Read

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

Vandals made a mess of Falmouth Drive early July 12, dumping plants all over the street and breaking lamp posts.

Police were called about 6:15 a.m. by a resident who found damage at several homes. 

Officers tried to clean up some of the mess, which was mainly between Bears Paw Lane and Saratoga Trail.

Flower pots and plants were overturned and dumped in the street at a number of homes, and at least two reported broken lamp posts. The High Point community center sign was broken, with exposed wires.

In addition, a Saratoga Trail reported that a basketball hoop was destroyed.

A resident reported hearing noises between 4 and 5 a.m.

A Forestwood Drive resident said two men have shown up at his door three times, asking if they could read books to his children.

On July 11, they arrived at 9:30 p.m.; on another occasion, they knocked at 8:30 a.m.

They said they were with a service that helps gets kids ready for school and seemed to have a list of children in the area.

When he asked them to leave, they got in a smaller black vehicle and drove off.

Intruder Returns

A Collier Drive woman called police at 2:45 a.m. July 9 because someone was trying to break in through a bedroom window.

Police found the screen off and had a canine officer try to track the suspect, who ran off when the woman woke up.

About 4:20 a.m., the resident called back to say the intruder had returned and again removed the screen.

She told officers she believes it might be someone she knows looking for a place to sleep.

Who Knew?

Witnesses asked police to check out a car left locked and idling outside Walmart July 9.

The owner came out and told officers he was having battery problems, so he bought an extra set of keys and left the car running.

Police told him it is illegal to leave a car running.

Not Gunshots

A Bent Tree Court woman reported hearing "big booms" she believed were gunshots just before midnight July 10.

Police found a transformer had blown. CEI said about 40 homes were without power.

Break-In at Store

An alarm brought police to Glass House, 19097 Drake Rd., about 1:40 a.m. July 12.

A report said the glass was broken and something just inside the window was knocked down, but nothing was taken from the business.

He Said, She Said

An employee at told police her ex-boyfriend was on his way to kill her current boyfriend at Chick-fil-A about 8:45 p.m. July 9.

The girl said she saw him pull a rifle out of the trunk of his car.

Police caught the ex, who is 17, at , but found no rifle. The boy said he didn't threaten the new beau, but was there to tell him that the girl was cheating on him.

He was taken into custody and released. He could face charges in Juvenile Court.
