Publisher's Clearinghouse Calls; Jar of Money Stolen: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Strongsville Police Department

A Chatman Drive woman got a phone call from someone saying she'd won a Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes — all she had to do was go to CVS and send some money.

The woman didn't fall for it. But she did get nervous and alert police because the caller said someone would be coming to her house Sept. 6 — and they had her address.

Police gave the woman some advice about how to handle the situation.

Wait, Maybe That WAS a Tree

A resident on Forestwood Drive got suspicious Sept. 7 when two kids hung a backpack on a tree in the park, then knelt by the tree for a long time.

Police spoke with the two, who were trying out a ghillie suit.

Burglary

A five-gallon water jug full of coins was taken from a Montclare Boulevard home sometime in the last few days, a report said.

The residents suspect employees from a tree company that was working there because they learned two of the workers had been recently fired for theft.

Barking Dog Causes a Stir

Neighbors on Lanier Avenue called police about 1 p.m. Sept. 6 because a dog had been barking since 7:30 a.m.

The dog wasn't outside, but might as well have been — he was sticking his head out an open window, a report said.

No people were home. Police called the animal warden, but a resident of the house said about 2 p.m. a friend had called to say the police were at her house and she was on her way home.

Vandalism

Someone spray-painted the side of a Lake Meadows Drive home the night of Sept. 5.

Lost and Reckless are Bad Combination

Mototists reported a woman driving left of center on Royalton Road about 4 p.m. Sept. 7.

A caller noted the woman looked "like she is going to pass out," a report said.

Police found the woman was very lost and trying to read directions while driving. An officer gave her the right directions and sent her on her way.

But police were back out with the car on I-71 at Pearl a few minutes later. Officers brought the woman back to the police station to arrange for a ride and for someone to pick up her car.
