Former Hollo Oval resident was scheduled to face attempted murder charge

The trial for Aco Simonoski, accused of hitting his ex-wife in the head with an ax, was scheduled to start Monday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, but has been postponed for a competency hearing.

Simonoski, 51, is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, according to court documents.

He is charged with attempted murder in the Aug. 21 attack on Milka Simonoski in her Hollo Oval home.

Police and prosecutors say Aco, who goes by Alex, argued with Milka after she told him to move out of the house they were sharing. He allegedly went to the garage, got and ax, and struck her in the head with it twice.

Their daughter, Bilyana, 22, also suffered a deep gash in her wrist when she tried to intervene.

Bilyana is spearheading a letter-writing campaign to Judge Ronald Suster to seek the maximum sentence of 18 years for her father, who is in jail on $500,000 bond.

Milka continues to slowly recover at an area nursing home.
