Firefighters from Brecksville, Broadview Heights and North Royalton also responded.
Branic said Strongsville attacked the blaze with water carried on its trucks, and North Royalton established a permanent water supply by hand-laying several hundred feet of hose from Royalton Road.
The fire continued to burn until the diesel fuel from the truck could be extinguished, and was under control about 12:45 p.m.
Rich’s Towing Service and an excavator from a nearby construction project were used to pull the debris apart so that all remaining fire could be extinguished, Branic said.
The westbound lanes remained open.
Fox 8 reports that the cargo truck was carrying cherries.
