Don't Cash That Check

A Drake Road man trying to sell a riding lawnmower on Craig's List found a buyer who offered to pay $50 extra for movers. But when the check came, it was $3,000 over.

The buyer told the man to go to Western Union to return the extra money, but Western Union, smelling a common scam, directed the man to police instead.

The check with the extra money was fake, but by the time the man would have found that out, he would already have wired his own money to the would-be buyer.

An iPod was reported stolen from a car on Oakland Park Drive May 27. The owner wasn't sure if the car was locked, but the sun roof was open.
