Strongsville Police Blotter: Like Fireworks? Plenty of People Don't

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

The calls started Friday night, and by just before midnight Monday, police had been asked to investigate 39 fireworks complaints.

Starting about 9 p.m. each of the four nights in the holiday weekend, police were sent to all corners of the city to investigate illegal fireworks. In most cases, when they arrived, the culprits had already finished; in others, they were halted and warned.

On Howe Road, neighbors complained July 3 that the fireworks sounded like sticks of dynamite. The man shooting them off was warned, but police returned to the house an hour later when a Fern Canyon resident said the aerial bombs were shaking his house.

Warning Doesn't Take

Police were called to the pool at the Polo Club Apartments on Howe Road about 7 p.m. July 2 about two men smashing beer bottles.

Officers said neither man had broken bottles, but both were intoxicated. The man who lives at the complex was advised to take his friend and go home.

Management called back 90 minutes later to say both were back and making gestures like they were holding a gun. One -- the man visiting -- was cited for disorderly conduct.

Theft from Auto

An iPod and GPS were stolen during the night from a car on Ellis Way.

The theft was reported July 4.

Burglary

A Wakefield Circle home was burglarized over the holiday weekend.

Residents told police they left Friday and realized when they returned Monday that someone had been in the house.

Papier Mache Mischief?

A Bernice Drive family woke up July 3 to find someone had put paper towels and a white substance on their garage door, shutters and a car in the driveway.

Police said the substance on the shutters had a sour odor and pasty consistency. It appeared flour was involved in the mess on the car.

Stopping Shoplifting before it Occurs

A police officer got suspicious when he saw a man cross Royalton Road carrying an empty Abercrombie bag.

The man told police he was going to the mall to return clothing, but there was nothing inside the bag.

The officer confiscated the bag and told the man he was not allowed at the mall.
