Strongsville Police Blotter: Mysterious Gunshots Reported, But No Shooter Found

Also, man reports neighbor took heroin; car found with branches sticking out front end just may have been in accident

Residents on Pearl Road reported hearing gunshots March 31.

One man called about 7:40 p.m. to say he heard a shot come from the northwest; a second caller said she heard two shots coming from the Falling Water Health Care Center area.

The man called back a half hour later to say he heard another shot coming from the Falling Water Road area, then again at 11:30 p.m. to report yet another.

He asked police to drive around the area to see if they could spot the shooter.

• A motorist on Webster Road at Royalton Road said a man was blowing so many leaves into the road March 29 it almost blinded him and caused an accident. Police reported Webster Road near Royalton Road was spotless, with no leaves on it.

• A Whitney Road resident called for help March 29, saying his neighbor was doing heroin and needed an ambulance. When police arrived, the man refused treatment and said he had only been drinking and taking Ambien.

• Neighbors reported a car parked behind a Pearl Road apartment building about 5:45 a.m. March 29, saying it had been running for an hour with its lights on. 

Police found the lights on, but the engine off and doors locked. There was fresh damage and tree branches stuck to the front end of the car, a report said. 

They were unable to reach the owner, but took photos to document the damage in case the driver had been involved in a hit-skip accident.

• A panhandler was reported at Big Lots and March 29, asking people for money to pay for his court fine and stay out of jail. Police picked up the man, warned him about soliciting and gave him a ride out of town.

• The freak snowstorm March 30 stranded some motorists on Stoney Hill. Police called the Service Department about 5:50 p.m. to report the hill was slippery; at 6:20 p.m., they returned to help a PT Cruiser that couldn't make it up the hill. Police closed Pearl Road at Drake Road until the hill could be salted.

• An officer on patrol tried to help prevent a crime when he noticed a house on Little Brook Way with its garage door open, no vehicles in the garage and a screen door leading to the house also open about 3:30 a.m. March 30.

He spoke with the homeowner, who didn't realize the garage door had been left open.

• A Saratoga Trail resident heard a bang about 1 a.m. March 28 and found his mailbox knocked down. It is the second time in the recent past the mailbox has been hit. In addition, the house was egged a few days earlier.

• Police were asked to help an elderly Texas woman after she became worried about her son. A report said the son typically calls three times a week, but hadn't contacted her in two weeks. Officers left a message with management at the man's apartment building; employees called back later and said they had spoken with the man and told him to call his mother.

• Two mailboxes on Whitney Road were hit by a car March 28, but the car may have gotten the worse part of the deal. Police said they found pieces of mirror and lenses from lights scattered on the road.

• A motorist at Chestnut Lakes Apartments told police a school bus pulling into the complex from Whitney Road nearly hit her car, forcing her to swerve into a ditch and causing $250 worth of damage March 31.

She said she contacted the school district, but the bus driver denied any involvement.

• A resident on Glen Cairn Way saw someone in an old white van pull up about 11 p.m. March 31 and steal his garbage, can and all. Officers could not locate the offender.
