Strongsville Police Blotter: Pizza Scam Works -- Sort Of

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

A pizza order from a very young caller got employees of suspicious -- and concerned -- Tuesday evening. 

An employee told police when he delivered the pizza to Penny Pines Circle, he found a note on the door saying not to knock -- just leave the pizza and charge it to the listed credit card number.

He left the pie, but the card number was declined.

The pizza shop notified police, saying they believed the pranksters were young children who had been left alone, based on the voice of the caller.

Police spoke with a boy at the house, who denied ordering a pizza. He called back later, though, to say his younger sister had finally admitted to ordering the food and leaving the note.

He said he would pay Tommy's.

Thieves Hit Baseball Fields

Two women reported their purses stolen from their cars while they were at the ball fields on Foltz Industrial Parkway Monday night.

One woman called at 7:45 p.m. and said someone had smashed her car window within the last 40 minutes.

Another woman called to say she didn't realize till she got home her purse was gone from her car.

One Case, Two Perspectives

A newspaper delivery woman called police several times to report a man who walks in the middle of Brandywine Drive in the early mornings.

She said when she warns him he's going to be hit by a car, he yells at her.

So officers looked for the man at 5:20 a.m. Thursday. A report said he was walking 3 feet from the curb and wearing reflective vest, shorts and shoes. 

He said he has been walking the same route for 15 years. He also said he sees a newspaper carrier "go flying" through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed in a car with one headlight.

Trashy Mischief

Young vandals arranged garbage to form a roadblock at the intersection of Walkingstick Way and Clipper Cove Drive early Wednesday morning.

An officer cleaned up the trash about 3:05 a.m. Five minutes later, he encountered more garbage in the road on Hearthstone, then blocking Hunters Point and Tradewinds.

He returned all the trash to tree lawns.

Repeat iOffenses

An iPod was stolen from the Tuesday evening, a report said.

The victim told police this is the third time he's had an iPod stolen from the rec center. He said someone took the device from his bag while he was playing basketball.
