Strongsville Police Blotter: Smell Coming from Woods Bothers Residents, But Not Coyotes

The following information was provided by the Strongsville police department

A resident on Barbara Drive called police July 25 to complain about a nasty smell coming from the woods behind his house.

Police discovered it was coming from a deer carcass. The carcass had been covered with some kind of substance, probably by another neighbor.

The next day, residents on Nanci Drive, which is on the other side of the woods, also complained about the stench.

A report said although lime had been put on the carcass, coyotes were uncovering the remains.

Officers found coyote tracks all around, and one resident said he has seen coyotes in the area.

The animal warden was called in to handle the matter.

With Flooding, Rules are Suspended

Police fielded a complaint about a resident on Jerry Coe Lane putting out trash almost a week early July 26.

But a report said Service Director Joe Walker asked police not to cite anyone for putting out trash early due to last week's flooding issues.

Officers said the trash on the lawn appeared to be wet.

No Burglary, But Almost

Someone tried to break into a house on Bennington Drive the night of July 25.

A screen and window were damaged, a report said.

Theft from Vehicle

A laptop computer was stolen from a van in a Drake Road driveway between Sunday night and Tuesday morning. The theft was reported Thursday, July 28.

The van was unlocked at the time.

Suspicious Situation

A man driving a silver Mustang convertible pulled up to an Ellsworth Drive house about 10 p.m. July 28, approached the resident's daughter, who was in the front yard with a friend and the family's dog, and said the dog was his.

The man said his dog had been missing for a month.

When the girl's parent came out of the garage, the man got back in his car and left.

He was older and had gray hair and a beard.

Splish, Splash

A motorist on Drake Road called police about 4:45 p.m. July 28 when a water balloon exploded on his windshield.

The kids who threw it ran into a house, but the driver said the garden hose was out and there were balloons next to it.

The matter was settled before police arrived, though. The mother of one culprit came out and the kids apologized.

Smoother Sailing

Concerned witnesses called police about noon July 26 when they saw a man in a motorized driving down the center turn lane on Pearl Road.

The man told police he occasionally rides in the street because the sidewalk is uneven and has potholes.

A report said that is true, but police warned him about riding in the road.
