Suspicious Kids; Boy Rescued from Water: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Strongsville Police Department

Residents called police Oct. 4 for incidents involving kids doing suspicious things on Waterford Parkway, according to reports.

About 9 p.m., a resident complained that a group of 10 to 15 middle-school-aged kids — all dressed in costumes — were chasing cars and goofing around on Waterford Parkway.

One was dressed as a penguin, the report said.

Police located the kids, who said they were on their way to a friend's house and were just playing tag.

About 10 p.m., a resident reported a group of kids running with their shirts up over their heads. It looked like they'd done something wrong and were trying to get away, the caller said.

Police couldn't locate that group.

Lining Up for Nikes

Police were called to SouthPark Mall about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 4 after a group of about a dozen people, waiting to buy a newly released Nike Air Jordan Sneaker Oct. 5, refused to leave the main entrance door.

Police told them they couldn't camp out on mall property. They agreed to wait in front of Red Lobster until morning.

The Air Jordan V “Bel-Air,” which sell for $185 a pair, were released on Saturday.

Boy Rescued

An Albion Road resident heard a bunch of people screaming and someone yelling for help abut 3:45 p.m. Oct. 5.

The yelling was coming from the retention basin near Gate Post Road and Pebblebrook Drive.

The caller determined there were about five boys on their bikes in the basin, which was filling with water.

When police arrived, the drama was over. Witnesses said the boys had been playing by the basin and one fell in, but neighbors helped him out.

Theft from Yard

Lawn furniture and other items were reported stolen from a yard on Benbow Road Oct. 4.

Not So Suspicious

Police were called to Webster Road Sunday about a man dismantling a fire hydrant.

They found the man, who lived at the home, was painting it.
