When police arrived, they found the suspect and his daughter in the driveway. A witness told police the man had just killed his wife inside the house.

Officers found the woman alive and lying face down on the floor with a "large amount of blood" around her and an axe lying nearby.

The daughter had also been struck with the axe while trying to protect her mother, the report said.

The dispatch report says arrived at the house about three minutes after the call, took the suspect into custody and called for paramedics, saying the situation was "severe."

The wife and daughter were taken to Southwest General Health Center, where a Life Flight helicopter arrived about 9:10 p.m. to take the wife to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The report said she arrived at MetroHealth shortly before 10 p.m.
