7 Quirky Facts about Housing in Strongsville

Here's some information about the city from the U.S. Census

Some housing facts culled from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, which offers estimates from 2008-2010 on social and economic characteristics of cities:

1. Most Strongsville residents own their homes

Not very surprising. Thre are 17,567 housing units in Strongsville, and only about 3,500 of those are rentals, including houses and apartments.

2. Seems like the city's homes are new, but Strongsville's older than you might think.

A full 50 percent of the city's housing units were built before 1980. The biggest growth decade was the 1970s, when 28 percent of the homes here were constructed. Another 22 percent were built in the 1990s. Only 10 percent went up after 2000.

3. The houses are, in fact, pretty big.

About 50 percent of owner-occupied houses in the city have four or more bedrooms. And 54 percent of them have eight or more total rooms.

4. There are highs and lows.

The census reports 100 homes valued at $1 million or more in town, and 200 worth less than $50,000.

5. Most people are still paying (quite a bit) on their homes. 

Of owner-occupied homes, 71 percent have a mortgage, and 36 percent of those report monthly owner costs (mortgage, real estate taxes, insurance and utilities) of more than $2,000 a month.

6. People move around.

Only about 10 percent of the population has lived in their current home since 1979.

7. How many mobile homes are there?

None.
