Kumo restaurant would open in former Bally's building

A Japanese restaurant is seeking approval to renovate and move into the former Bally Total Fitness building on Pearl Road.

will ask the Strongsville Planning Commission Thursday for permission to operate in 9,000 square feet at 14783 Pearl Rd.

The company will also seek site plan approval for exterior renovations.

Kumo, which features Japanese, Chinese and American cuisine, currently has a location on Snow Road in Parma.

Its website says it also offers a hibachi and sushi options. It will be Strongsville's .

It will occupy the first floor of the building. Elevated Fitness is seeking to open an exercise and workout facility on the second floor.

The Strongsville Bally's was one of 47 to close nationwide as part of the Chicago-based company's Chapter 11 restructuring.

The Planning Commission meets at 8 p.m. June 30 at the Mike Kalinich Sr. Council Chambers.
