No More Carrying Your Toboggan at Chalet

Metroparks unveils new lift that will haul your sled to the top of the hill

Cleveland Metroparks Chalet Toboggan Chutes have a new addition -- a long-awaited toboggan lift.

The lift will use a 12 horse-power motor and cable system to mechanically pull the toboggans on a tow 150 feet up the hill to a receiving deck where they will be stored.

Cleveland Metroparks staff will load and unload the toboggans. Riders will be able just walk up the steps to the top of the chutes, without lugging their toboggans with them.

The chutes open Friday, Nov. 23, with special opening day hours from noon to 10:30 p.m., weather permitting.

This season's public tobogganing hours are:

  • Thursdays - 6 to 10 p.m. (in January, February and March 2013)
  • Fridays - 6 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays - noon to 10:30 p.m.
  • Sundays - noon to 5 p.m.
  • Holidays - call for holiday hours (Dec. 23 through Jan. 6; Jan. 21 and Feb. 18)

Daily admission fee is $10 for adults and $8 for children 11 and under, which includes unlimited use of toboggans for the day. One-time ride tickets are also available for $4.

Season passes are $40 for adults, $30 for kids 11 and under and $110 for a family up to four people.

Group discount rates, for 20 or more people, are available for rides during public hours.

The Chalet Recreation Area, including the use of the toboggan chutes, can also be rented for private exclusive use during non-public hours. Call 440-572-9990 for more information and to make reservations.

All riders must wear gloves or mittens. Children must be at least 42 inches tall to ride, and must be accompanied by an adult. Personal toboggans are not allowed at the facility.

The Chalet Recreation Area is located at 16200 Valley Parkway in Mill Stream Run Reservation, between Routes 42 and 82 in Strongsville.

A thankful addition albeit too late for me. Walking up the 72 steps with the tobogan was tedious, even before my by-pass. Maybe now I'll try again; for old times sake. Is there a defibilator up top?
