Patton May Help Bring Superman License Plate to Ohio

State senator said he would sponsor legislation

State Sen. Tom Patton may be taking on a superhero soon.

Patton, a Strongsville Republican, has agreed to sponsor legislation -- if a group of enthusiasts completes a successful petition drive -- to create an Ohio license plate marked with the Superman logo.

The plate would also say "Ohio -- Birthplace of Superman."

"I think Cleveland should be proud it's the birthplace of Superman," Patton said.

The Siegel and Shuster Society, a nonprofit group that honors Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, is collecting signatures on a petition seeking to create the special license plates.

The group must collect at least 500 signatures on the petition.

Patton said he was asked by former University Heights Mayor Beryl Rothschild to sponsor the legislation.

"Superman is known world-wide," Patton said. "I agreed to get the ball rolling on the license plate."
