Stamps Going Up By a Penny; Shipping Costs Also Increasing

U.S. Post Office raising rates Jan. 27

The US Post Office is increasing the price of stamps and other shipping on Jan. 27.

How much?

A penny on the stamp -- increasing it from 45 to 46 cents. Shipping packages with Priority Mail will be going up too, anywhere from 45 cents to $1.40 per box.

Years ago, we might have rushed out to the post office to buy one-cent stamps or Forever stamps

But now you can pay your bills online and send electronic greeting cards, so do you even need to mail anything anymore?

How often do you use the post office? Do you use another shipping service like UPS or FedEx when you ship packages? Tell us in the Comments section.

My New Year's resolution is to write letters to family. I just learned that schools don't teach cursive writing anymore, and that my 11 year old grandson cannot even read cursive writing. So, yes, I'll need plenty of stamps to write at least 1 letter each and every week this year!

They have to be kidding...the reason people don't use USPS is that they are completely unreliable, and take no responsibility for shipping your package in a reasonable amount of time. I agree that we hardly have to use stamps anymore, but if they offered a reliable shipping service that they backed up, perhaps people would use them more to ship. I don't even care if Fedex or UPS costs more-they get it there when they say they will, and if something does happen, they back it up, and are committed to customer service. USPS simply does not care, so now they are trying to compensate be raising prices...what a joke!
