Strongsville Installs Weather Warning Sirens

Alert systems will be placed at seven city parks this week

The city this week began constructing new weather warning systems for the outdoor sports parks.

“This is a very valuable tool in safeguarding our children and our community,” said Mayor Thomas Perciak. “They could be doing a lot of things outside and they wouldn’t know that something serious was happening with the weather. Now these sirens it will be there to let them know.”

A total of eight alert sirens are slated for the city parks, including Ehrnfelt Baseball Diamonds on Royalton Road; Volunteer Park on Lunn Road; the Youth Sports Park on Lunn Road; Surrarer Park at Whitney and Webster roads; Nichols Field on the corner of Marks and Sprague roads and Recreation Park 3 at Drake and Prospect.  Two systems are to be installed at Foltz Park.

“I first asked the city to put sirens in 1989. I felt it was a much needed thing for an outdoor alarm. Strongsville is too good not to have something like this,” he said. “We pray a tornado never happens, but if it does, I’m thankful that we will have (the alarm).”
