'Take a Look Around at What Was Created Here'

City dedicates three new ballfields on Lunn Road

It was perfect baseball weather as city officials dedicated Strongsville's Friday evening.

"Take a look around at what we have created here," Mayor Tom Perciak urged the crowd.

The three fields at were built last fall and this spring with a $250,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and $50,000 from Strongsville Travel Baseball.

"These smaller fields are something that was really needed in Strongsville," said Carl Hoerig of Strongsville Travel Baseball.

They have been used since Memorial Day by more than 700 kids ages 6-12.

Also speaking at the dedication ceremony was former State Rep. Matt Patten of Strongsville, who was instrumental in getting the ODNR grant.

The grant was designation to go toward a new outdoor swimming pool. Officials got permission to reallocate the money to relocate three ballfields on the site of the proposed pool -- near the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center -- that will be dismantled when the pool is built.
