Typo Trouble: O'Charley's Takes a Step Back -- And Across the Street

Transposed numbers put proposed restaurant in 'mystery' location

The application sought a liquor permit at 9194 Pearl Rd., which appeared to be a vacant lot next to the former Quality Catering.

"It was a big mystery for awhile," Economic Development Director Brent Painter said.

Council President Mike Daymut said the Nashville, TN-based restaurant chain has withdrawn its application for a liquor permit for the time being.

"They're not ready to go forward for a number of reasons," Daymut said.

The restaurant's interest in the Pearl-Whitney corner marks the first rumblings of since the last developer bowed out in 2009.

Painter, noting that foreclosure proceedings were wrapping up, predicted last month that there would be activity at that corner by the end of the year.

A major retail project at that corner has been promised since 2005, when a developer said he had lined up tenants like Circuit City and Bed Bath & Beyond.

The project stalled when he ran into financial trouble. A second developer then picked up the reins, but he, too, bumped into financial obstacles.

O'Charley's describes itself as a fun, casual-dining family restaurant that is known for its fresh-from-the-oven rolls.

It also offers steaks, chicken, salads and desserts, as well as a Sunday brunch.

O'Charley's operates more than 230 restaurants in the United States, including one in Cuyahoga Falls. There are also O'Charley's restaurants in Canal Winchester (just outside Columbus), Boardman, Niles and Cincinnati.
