10 Apply for Vacant School Board Seat

School Board to interview candidates Jan. 27

Ten people have applied for the Strongsville School Board seat vacated last week by .

The remaining School Board members have set a closed-door meeting for Jan. 27 to interview the candidates. A session to name a new member is scheduled for Jan. 31.

The person appointed to the post will serve the last year of Maloney's term and could seek a full four-year term by running for the post this year.

Maloney left the school board to accept the Ward 4 City Council position left vacant when Mike Gallagher was elected to the Cuyahoga County Council.

Seeking the appointment are William Bongers, 17823 Monterey Pine; David Grumbach, 10858 Meadow Trail; Troy Lum, 10794 Waterfall Drive; Philip Maguire, 18528 Bishop Lane; Daniel Martin, 12611 Calumet Court; Richard Micko, 20520 Wildwood Lane; Carl Naso, 17006 Deerpath Drive; David Potter, 13916 Maple Circle; Robert Powell, 22274 Jonathan Drive; and Erin Witte, 19407 Saratoga Trail.

One of the new School Board member's first official acts is expected to be deciding whether to place a 9.9-mill operating levy on the May 3 primary ballot.
