Cell Phone Photos Outlawed in Strongsville Schools this Year

New policy will prohibit kids from snapping pictures of other students.

Students in the Strongsville schools will just have to remember this school year, because photos won't be allowed.

A new policy, approved by the Board of Education last week, prohibits students from taking pictures or videos or other students or staff during the school day.

The policy came under scrutiny, though, after board member Richard Micko questioned whether it will be enforceable.

"I'm afraid it could become very unwieldy as a policy at the high school," Micko said. "We don't want to have a policy we just wink at."

He said students are used to snapping a picture with their phones and posting it quickly on Facebook.

"I do think there's a practical issue," he said.

Superintendent John Krupinski said students and staff will be made aware of the new policy when classes start.

He added that not all pictures are prohibited — only those of students and staff.

And board member Ruth Brickley said the policy also says students will be able to take photos if they get permission first.
