Dave Gusman Signs Off From Strongsville Board of Education

On Thursday night, Gusman offered a few parting words to his peers and the public

Out with the old and in with the new.

To close out the last regular meeting of the year, board member Dave Gusman had the final word on Thursday night to talk about why he stepped down and to recount what he and the board were able to accomplish over the past several years.

“It is with great pride that I finish out my eight years of service here,” he said. “I think as a change agent you can do so much, and you come to the point where it’s time to step aside and let somebody else take the reins and try to bring the district to the next step.”

Gusman said he was most proud of the district’s 10 consecutive “Excellent” ratings, and said he was pleased with how the board has reorganized itself over the years.

The veteran board member said he sought election to quell the micromanagement which had driven off several school administrators and principals and to create a more transparent line of communication between the board and the public.

As he concluded, he was met with a round of applause and received praise from his peers.

“David, it’s been my privilege to work with you as a board member for the past eight years,” said Assistant Superintendent John Krupinski. “You have always brought an honest belief in your opinions and have stated them well, and always in the best interest of students.”

Newcomer will fill Gusman’s seat starting January 1, 2012.
