School Superintendent Jeff Lampert announced Thursday night he would leave his post when his current contract expires Aug. 1.
Lampert, who has been superintendent here since January 2009, said his decision to leave was spurred by "ever-changing dynamics of my family."
He made the announcement during a School Board work session.
"Your priorities change," he said after the meeting. "It was just time for me. I guess you just kind of know when it's time."
The School Board voted in March to extend the contracts of all the district's administrators, including Lampert, for three years.
"You've made an incredible change for the better in the district," board President David Frazee said.
Lampert said his personal priorities have changed to the point he would not be able to give the district his full time and attention.
"You can't do everything and do it well," he said.
He said he has been "blessed" to work with "top-quality people" and -- his voice breaking -- called leaving "a very tough decision."
"I just hope we've made a difference here," he said. "I think we have."
