Poll Says Majority Oppose Strongsville Teachers Strike, Support Board of Education

Survey indicates 71 percent of residents have unfavorable opinion of SEA

 

A poll taken last week indicates that 74 percent of Strongsville residents oppose the Strongsville teachers' strike, and that 56 percent have a favorable opinion of the Board of Education.

About 33 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the School Board; 11 percent had no opinion.

Meanwhile, 71 percent had an unfavorable opinion of the Strongsville Education Association, which is the union representing the striking teachers, and 72 percent said their opinion of the union had gotten worse in the last six months.

The poll was conducted by the Strongsville Republican Club and Victory Solutions April 11 and 12.

A total of 2,196 people were surveyed.

When asked if their opinion of the Board of Education had gotten better or worse over the last 6 months, 36 percent responded that their opinion had gotten better and 33 percent said it had gotten worse.

Among parents with students in the school district, 79 percent said they oppose the strike, while only 17 percent support it.

Even union households oppose the strike, the survey showed. Among households where a member belonged to a union, 63 percent oppose the strike, while 30 percent support it.

In union households, 60 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the SEA, and 41 percent have an unfavorable opinion of the School Board.
