Strongsville Teachers Ratify Contract

Now ball is in School Board's court

The Strongsville Education Association has ratified a new contract with the school district, potentially ending nine months of negotiations.

"It's a step in the right direction," Superintendent Jeff Lampert said.

Now the pact goes to the Strongsville Board of Education for approval.

Lampert said school and union officials were working on a news release that would reveal details of the contract. In addition, the School Board is expected to discuss the document at a work session at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Teachers have been working without a contract since July. The negotiations heated up a few times over the months, with teachers showing up in a large group at school board meetings to show solidarity.

In addition, a short-lived "work to rule" effort sparked controversy in February when teachers agreed to do the minimum work required by contract and nothing more.

That effort reportedly lasted only a few days.
