Lady Mustangs are Regional Soccer Champs

Strongsville beats Massillon Jackson 1-0, will play Sylvania Northview in the state semifinals next week

Every athlete will agree that an ugly win is always better than a not-so-bad loss.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon at Rocky River High School, the (19-2) took the field and held the previously undefeated Polar Bears (14-1-5) at bay and won, 1-0.

The score tells the story: not much offense mixed with an overwhelming amount of defense.

Sophomore Emily Ogle scored Strongsville's lone goal in the first half, assisted by senior Erin Peskura and good Mustang defense kept the team out of any real danger for the remainder of the game.

"It was a good game today, but we need to make a few adjustments," Lady Mustangs head coach Jon Felton said. "There were some missed opportunities, but these girls played hard and they know how to win.

"We'll be ready come next week, but for now, I'd like to congratulate the team on winning today's (regional championship)."

Catch Strongsville next week when they face off against Sylvania Northview in the state semifinals at Rocky River High at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Winner travels to Crew Stadium in Columbus for the state championship.
