Strongsville Freshmen, JV Win Holiday Tournament

Varsity falls to Berea in consolation game

 

Strongsville High School's freshman and junior varsity basketball teams won their championship games in the second day of the holiday tournament play Saturday.

The Mustang freshman whipped Berea 50-38, while the JV team bested Shaw 60-49.

The varsity Mustangs played a consolation game against Berea, losing 81-67. Kyle Meehan had 25 points for Strongsville, leading all scorers.

In the varsity championship game, St. Peter Chanel and Shaw were tied 31-31 at the half, but Shaw came out in the second half to take a 12-point lead.

Chanel closed the gap to 61-60 with 40 seconds left, but Shaw rallied to win 65-60.

In the JV consolation game, Berea beat Chanel 40-36.

On Friday, the varsity Mustangs held a 7-point lead in the second quarter, but ended up losing to the Chanel Firebirds 71-46.
