Strongsville Swimming Star Michael Meldon Honored by Mayor

Perciak recognizes high school's first state swim champ

Michael Meldon, the first Strongsville High School swimmer to win a state championship, was honored Monday by Mayor Tom Perciak.

"I think it's time to celebrate Michael Meldon's success," Perciak said.

Perciak presented a plaque to a senior who won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle at the 84th annual Ohio High School Athletic Association swimming and diving championships Feb. 26.

The top seed in both events, Meldon was able to hold off the challenges and win twice to become the first state swim champion in school history. He joins Strongsville diver Kyle Prandi, who won a state crown off the board back in 1996.

Meldon, who plans to major in biomedical engineering at Ohio State University and is already training for the Olympic trials, thanked his coach, Tom Stacy, and his parents and said he will miss Strongsville High School.
