Underdog Mustangs Ready to Work Hard this Basketball Season
In their opener against Olmsted Falls tonight, Strongsville will focus on smart play, tough defense and hard work to get the season started on the right foot
basketball fans are ready for a new season. Only question is, are the players ready, too?
Coming into this year, the Mustangs lost five senior starters, and veteran coach Joe Lynch is now looking to a fresh set of upper classmen to step up.
Seniors Sean Alexander, Justin Stephens, Brady Armitage and Jacob Even are the leaders of the new-school Mustangs, and according to the up-and-comers, they’re prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Given a list of opponents that includes Garfield Heights, , St. Ignatius and St. Ed’s, there will certainly be plenty of challenges to go around.
Despite any adversity, the seniors appeared composed and focused after this Wednesday’s practice.

Alexander stressed the team’s chemistry and talent, Even remarked on the solid defense he’s seen during scrimmages and Stephens is ready to “silence the critics.”
“We did lose an edge, but I think that’s going to give us an advantage because we’re going to be underdogs and teams won’t know quite what to expect,” said Armitage.
Lynch, who’s been coaching for nearly 40 years, sees promise in his team as well, but knows that only determination, hard work and a steady willingness to improve will set the foundation for a winning season.
“We need competition,” he said. “We need to get in game situations to get our thinking patterns straight. You can practice and practice, but you won’t learn the game until you turn on the scoreboard and fill the bleachers with fans. We’ll take it a game at a time.”
To start the regular season, Strongsville will face Olmsted Falls at home tonight at 7:30 p.m.
