Popular 'Bug City' Coming to Metroparks

Event is at Garfield Park Nature Center

It's tourist season at Cleveland Metroparks "Bug City."

Meet the citizens of Cleveland Metroparks "Bug City" event on Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Garfield Park Nature Center in Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights.

Visitors of all ages are encouraged to take in the sites, learn about the importance of bugs by travelling through the seven districts of Bug City.

Bug House - See a great variety of bugs (both, live and mounted) from native Ohio critters to African creepy-crawlies.

Garden District - Stop by the Garden District and get garden tips on which plants will attract certain bugs with the Master Gardeners. See live and mounted butterflies, and meet some beekeepers while learning all about bees and tasting some delicious honey.

Culinary Bugstitute - With all the walking around the seven districts, a good place to stop and enjoy a snack in Bug City is the Culinary Bugstitute with Chef Gene White and his bug-cooking demonstrations and samples.

Art District - Take in a show in the Art District with the new Alberti's Flea Circus or take a buggy voyage with Capt'n Willie and enjoy 'buggy' music with Gary Lee.

Bug Safari Land - Experience Bug SafariLand and enjoy the great bug hunt, the ant trail, and a must-do activity for kids - the Mealworm 500, where kids can watch the mealworms race to the finish line!

Buggywood - Drop into Buggywood for Bug Bingo and a puppet show!

Predator Alley - Walk down Predator Alley to see live animals from Lake Erie Nature & Science Center and test your Bug IQ.

Children can get a passport to be stamped throughout Bug City's districts and complete a variety of activities. After the children receive at least five stamps, they can redeem their passport for a specially-designed Bug City prize.

Families can also take rides on the Bug Express train for $2 per person.

Garfield Park Nature Center is off the Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights - north of the I-480/Broadway Avenue exit.
