Big Weekend: Breakfast on Bridge, Day at Chalet

Two fun events for families are set for Sunday

Two major events are scheduled for this weekend:

Breakfast on the Bridge

 This will be the 28th year for the Strongsville City Club's Breakfast on the Bridge, set for 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event takes place on the covered bridge in the Cleveland Metroparks at Whitney Road just off Valley Parkway. There is parking at the RTA Park-N-Ride on Pearl Road, with a free shuttle to the event.

Cost for adults is $7 in advance or $8 on Sept. 18; $4 in advance or $5 at the door for kids. There will be seatings at 7:30, 9:30 and 11 a.m.

Day at the Chalet

Arts in Strongsville will host its annual A Day at the Chalet, a free outdoor family arts festival, on Sunday, Sept. 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at the .

The event, sponsored by  and a variety of co-sponsors, features arts, crafts, entertainment and activities for kids of all ages.

This year’s entertainment includes Cleveland’s own world-renowned Singing Angels; the Cleveland TOPS Swing Band, a group made up mainly of retired professional all-star musicians; the Strongsville Community Band, directed by Ken Mehalko; the ; the Kashtan Ukrainian Dance Group; vocal impressionist Billy Fischer; the Mustang Express Show Choir from  and the Up Ensemble jazz trio. On the back patio, where free popcorn and cotton candy are served all day, Island Jeff Cavallo will perform steel pan music from the Caribbean.

Kids' crafts and activities, ranging from painting to beading to cupcake decorating, will be offered and more than 20 crafters will display their work. Theatrical techniques will be taught in the drama tent. For those who feel lucky, a gift basket raffle will be held.

All activities and entertainment at A Day at the Chalet are free – but a donation of canned goods or non-perishable items for the Strongsville Food Bank is greatly appreciated.

Burgers, hot dogs, pizza and beverages will be available at family friendly prices throughout the day. There will be free parking at the Chalet and at the RTA Park-N-Ride, at the Ohio Turnpike entrance on Pearl Road. A free shuttle from the RTA lot will be available.
