Rescued Jack Russell Terrier Desperately Needs Foster Home

Little guy's traumatic past has caught up with him

The little caught after weeks on the run in the Pearl Road-turnpike area needs to find a foster home with no other pets -- and quickly, his rescuer said.

Jack, as he's now known, has developed a fear of other animals, probably because of things that happened to him in the woods.

"Jack now has fear aggression with other dogs. I know he will overcome this, but we must find him the right foster home for his own health," said Amy Havranek, who spent two full days setting traps in the woods before catching the pup March 24.

On the plus side, Jack is smart and "learns commands so fast! He likes to wear sweaters! He hops like a bunny and just learned to play fetch and bring his toy back. He LOVES his people and is a velcro dog," Havranek said in the e-mail.

But Havranek has other pets. She is keeping Jack separated from them, but that sends the pup into a panic. With no other pets around, Jack has only mild separation anxiety from his owner, she said.

If he is put in a crate or kennel, he stops drinking water to the point he becomes sick. A veterinarian has put him on anxiety medication, recognizing that his symptoms indicate a traumatic past.

Havranek has already had a trainer come to her home, but said Jack needs continuing training in a calm environment.

"He urgently needs the right foster home for his own safety and health.
Jacks needs a fenced in yard (no invisible fencing), no dogs/cats. His new
home must be calm without alot of traffic coming into the home," she wrote

If necessary, Havranek said she would pay for training. Anyone who can give Jack a home where he can heal can e-mail her for a foster application.

Havranek thought she'd found the perfect foster/permanent , but he could not get along with their other dogs.

She said she knows someone is out there who can help.

"Jack is a one in a million do , who has been through a lot in his short little
life. He needs help once again," she said. "We wont stop until he's happy."
