Strongsville Rotary Donates $36,000 to Charities

A record-breaking year for Annual Chili Open

The Strongsville Rotary has donated $36,000 in proceeds from the 20th annual B'laster Chili Open Golf Classic to 12 charities.

Each receives $3,000.

The 12 charities, selected from 45 applicants, are: Berea Children's Home, Central American Medical Outreach, City Mission/Laura's Home, Cleveland Scholarship Programs (Malone Scholarship Fund, Easter Seals, Greater Cleveland Youth Challenge, Hanson House, Lighthouse Inc., Malachi House, Ronald McDonald House, Rose-Mary Center and the Strongsville Education Foundation.

The golf classic grossed $140,000 -- the most in its 20-year history, according to event chairman Dave Riehl. The bottom line was helped this year by a raffle for tickets to the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga.

After expenses, the event this year netted $96,000.
