'Strongsville Weighs Less' Launches Jan. 14

Diet and exercise plan seeks to get the town in shape for the New Year

The Strongsville Women's League will again sponsor Strongsville Weighs Less, a 10-week program designed to bring the town together to get in better shape.

Registration and initial weigh-in is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the . If you can't make it that day, a second-chance registration will take place 4-7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the rec center.

Cost to participate is $20. The program is open to anyone 18 or older who lives in the Strongsville area.

There will be six biweekly support and educational meetings. The program will conclude March 31 with a final weigh-in.

, Brad Handlin and Jamie Merkle, lost 15 percent and 12 percent of their total body weight over a 12-week period.

Winning team entry, Lettuce Begin, led by Roseann Cyngier, lost a total of 63 pounds.

Prizes for weight loss will be awarded at SWL's annual fundraiser, Springtime in the ‘Ville, April 21.

The program aims to offer support, education and access to resources to help participants get fit.

"Wouldn’t it be easier to stay with your decision to make changes in your life if everywhere you go -- to work, to the grocery store, to church, walking in your neighborhood -- you see others you know are fighting the same battle?" the program's website asks.
