Owner of Active Runner tells our news partner WEWS Channel 5 that he will donate profits from sales this weekend to help those affected by the bombings.
A Strongsville running specialty store owner is pitching in to help the victims in Monday’s deadly bombings in Boston. “It’s something in my heart that I really feel like I need to do,” said Randy Osborne, owner of Active Runner. Osborne told Patch's news partner, WEWS Channel 5, that he plans to donate all of the profits he receives at his store Saturday April 20 and Sunday April 21 to support those affected by the bombings. More than 170 were injured and three were killed following two explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line. “It’s just something that really touched home with me,” Osborne said. Osborne is a marathon runner and a parent. He said he was moved to engage the community to support Boston once he learned that 8-year-old …

Seventh-grade boys went undefeated in regular season
The seventh grade boys basketball team at Center Middle School went 14-0 in the regular season, breaking the school record for winning percentage. The boys also set a school record for most points scored in a game. The team is coached by Mike Boyle. "I have to say that Coach Boyle did an outstanding job with these kids, and he is one of those coaches that parents hope their children will be coached by!" one parent said in an email to Strongsville Patch. "He motivated these boys, instilled in them them the need to be respectful, responsible and driven both on the court and in life -- he even had them dress up in dress shirt and tie on game day, to remind them that it was a privilege and an honor to have been selected to be on this team …

Harrison Hightower has battled through Legg Calve Perthese disease to become a state champion and Ohio University wrestler.
Harrison Hightower's story has a strange resemblance to that of Forrest Gump. Like Gump, Hightower was diagnosed with a physical disease at an early age that dramatically affected the use of his legs, forcing him to wear braces. But, just as Forrest Gump overcame such a tragic obstacle to become an impressive college athlete, so did Hightower. Around the same time his family moved to Strongsville, Hightower was diagnosed with Legg Calve Perthese disease. The head of his hipbone was deteriorated and stopped growing so doctors gave him leg braces. "They were similar to the ones in Forrest Gump," Hightower said. The braces forced his legs to bend outwards and he had to play sports in them, causing some interesting reactions from others. "It …

Six Strongsville High athletes will head to Kansas in July to play in the presigious 2013 US Youth National Soccer Championships.
Six Strongsville High School soccer players traveled to Las Vegas this past weekend and helped their club team, Cleveland United U17, win a coveted US Youth Soccer National League tournament. It's the first time a team from Ohio Youth Soccer Association North (OYSAN) has ever won the Player's College Showcase tournament, which earned them an automatic bid to the 2013 US Youth National Soccer Championships, according to Strongsville parent Cheryl Ehrnfelt. The girls -- Alexis Manoa, Paige Amodio, Nicolette Griesinger, Kelly Novak, Lizzie Ehrnfelt and Maddy Novak -- went undefeated during league play this season (7-0) and only gave up one goal, said Ehrnfelt. Major college programs have already recruited the girls. Here are their commitments…
