Student asks voters to support bond issue on Nov. 6 ballot

Dear Residents of Strongsville,  Hi, my name is Trevor Mancuso and I am the president of Strongsville High School P.R.I.D.E. Club.  Pride Club stands for Positive, Remarkable, Incredible, Distinguished, Excellence.  It is a club where we showcase all of the outstanding things that are accomplished year after year, at Strongsville and we work hard to share the pride of our city and schools to people all over the country! We were created three years ago by our great advisors Mr. Boros and Mrs. Harbart, both Strongsville alumni and very proud of it! They have helped us to accomplish many great things, helped create the green and white banners lining Lunn Road, raised money for the new beautiful electronic sign at the main entrance of the …

Volunteers Hit the Streets for $81 Million Bond Issue

62 people show up Saturday to help spread the word

The campaign for the Strongsville School District's $81 million bond issue went to the streets Saturday, with volunteers knocking on doors to spread the word about Issue 116. Ward 3 Councilman Jim Carbone, who is helping lead the campaign, said 62 people gave up their Saturday to help with the Walk and Talk. "I think they came back more excited than when they left because of the great feedback they got from people they talked to," Carbone said. The Walk and Talk targeted people who have voted in the last few general elections. "I think people really appreciated us going to them," Carbone said. "They had a chance to ask questions and get them answered." Issue 116 is an $81 milion bond issue that would pay to build a new middle school on the…

The Bond Issue 116 is going to change the face of Strongsville starting with educating students first, saving money maintaining building that are too old, potentially could become unsafe, and providing a model of excellence for the students going forward. The students in Strongsville will have a chance to compete with other districts on a even educational playing field when Issue 116 is passed.   more ›

Middle School Site to Be Revealed Thursday

Task force to make recommendation at board meeting

A task force working on a plan for the Strongsville School District's buildings is expected to have a recommendation Thursday night for where to construct a new middle school. The choices have already been narrowed to two, both on Pearl Road: a 17-acre district-owned site next to Strongsville High School and behind Jardine Funeral Home; and the existing Center Middle School site. The district hired GDP Group, an architectural firm that would eventually design the building, to help make the final site selection after the task force couldn't agree. "We decided, why not wait until we have  professional on board to help us?" Business Manager Mark Donnelly said. Of course, the new $47 million middle school depends on voter approval of an $81 …

Site for New Middle School Narrowed to 2 Choices

Final selection will wait till architect has a say

A task force studying school buildings has narrowed the potential site for a new middle school to two locations -- both on Pearl Road. But the group deadlocked on whether the better location is a 17-acre school-owned parcel next to Strongsville High School or the current Center Middle School site. "We couldn't come up with a consensus," said Mark Donnelly, the school district's manager of business services.  The solution? Call in an expert. "We decided, why not wait until we have  professional on board to help us?" Donnelly said. The School Board is poised to bring on an architect to guide the design of the proposed middle school, and Donnelly said he learned during the interviews that the top firm has experience in site selection. As a …

So a two lane road comes into play? I did not realize the high school was on a two lane road! Albion owns the parcel and could put in an entrance to the north side as well to bad more thought did not go into it. Center will be expensive to tear down build on due to location and more money could be be made by selling that land, could it not?   more ›

New Middle School Site to be Chosen Soon

District is also bringing on architect to help guide plans for project

A task force that developed a $145 million plan to improve and replace Strongsville's school buildings is expected to recommend a site for a new middle school within the next two or three weeks. Ken Evans, a Facilities Committee member, said Thursday that the task force is now studying the best location for a proposed new middle school and will have a recommendation "hopefully by the end of June, beginning of July." The site originally proposed -- a 17-acre school-owned parcel next to Strongsville High School-- may be too small, officials have said. Other possibilities include the sites of the current Center or Albion schools. Feedback from residents has indicated voters won't consider an $81 million bond issue on the November ballot …

I don't think they are either. I don't think tearing down the current schools is necessary at all but instead upgrading them as they're not in bad condition nor do they have poor attendance.   more ›
