They've put in innumerable hours to get where they are today. The 529 athletes from 45 states will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. They are competing in events as diverse as athletics, fencing, rowing, soccer and basketball. For everyone, from swimmer Katie Ledecky, 15, to 54-year-old equestrian jumper Karen O’Connor, these Games represent the culmination of all the hard work and dedication they've put in to win the coveted medal. The designer, Ralph Lauren, said he will make future uniforms in the United States.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the United States Olympic Committee should be "ashamed of themselves" for allowing the 2012 U.S. olympians' uniforms to be made in China, according to a CBS News story. The designer, Ralph Lauren, recently announced the uniforms will be made state-side from now on — starting with the 2014 winter olympics — following an uproar from the government. Reid even went as far to say that the Opening Ceremony Parade Uniforms and collection of village wear apparel should be burned. "If they have to wear nothing but a singlet saying USA on it painted by hand, that’s what they should do," Reid said, according to a People.com story.
