This postcard is from The Cleveland Memory Project, a look at Cleveland-area history and vast photo archive presented by Cleveland State University Libraries. Strongsville Patch will feature other photos over the next few weeks. The description on the postcard reads like this: Coach House Family style dinners all you can eat 8181 Pearl Rd. (Rt. 42) 1/2 mile North of Ohio Turnpike Exit 10 Cleveland 36, Ohio Berea Rd 4-2208 open weekdays from 5 P. M. Sun. & Holidays at Noon. Serving country style chicken, seafoods, prime ribs, steaks, chicken paprikash. Private Dining Room for banquets, Weddings, Buffets. Recommended by Ducan Hines.

CSU Memory Project shows Strongsville back in the day
The Cleveland Memory Project, a collaboration by Cleveland State University Libraries, includes this picture of Murphy's Motel around 1964, taken from a postcard. The card says: "Two blocks north of exit 10, Ohio Turnpike, on U.S. 42. Phone: BE 4-2277. 55 Quiet Rooms, Free TV, Hi-Fi Music, Color TV in Lobby, Air-conditioned - Hot Water Heat with Individual Room Control, 2 Heated Swimming Pools, Kiddies Playground, Phones in all Rooms - 24 Hr. Switchboard Service, Family Rooms, Warm Bath Floors, Wall-to-Wall Carpeting, Kind-size Beds, Bedside Coffee in all Rooms, 10 min. to Airport, Next to Fine Restaurants." The project includes a vast photo collection as part of a look at Cleveland history.

Cleveland Memory Project has a glimpse of Strongsville's past
The Cleveland Memory Project offers a look into the area's history with written works and a collection of pictures. This one's description: Aerial view of Strongsville, looking east. Whitney Rd. runs from top to bottom, and Interstate 71 is seen running left to right at the top of the photo. Pearl Rd. runs from left to right along the center." This photo originally appeared in the Cleveland Press in 1969. Cleveland Memory is a collaborative effort between the Cleveland State University Libraries.

It was a big deal to go to the Coach House for a lobster dinner when I was a Cleveland kid. My parents took me there for my 10th birthday. I still have the souvenier photo.   more ›
