Cruise over to Wallace Lake for family fun June 21
Cleveland Metroparks will host a "Cruise-In Movie" this June for a blast from the past. On Friday, June 21, "cruise" over to Wallace Lake in Mill Stream Run Reservation for an outdoor viewing of the 1989 movie Field of Dreams and a classic car show. The area opens at 5 p.m., with movie starting at sundown, about 8:45 p.m. Reserved parking is available for classic cars. There will be additional separate parking for general audience. Participants can watch the movie from their car, beach or grassy hill. Bring a ball and glove to play a game of catch on the baseball field before the movie, too. Event is set for May 18 at Wallace Lake
Kids 4 to 15 can enjoy a day of fishing fun and learn the basics of angling at the Cleveland Metroparks Fishing Derby May 18 at Wallace Lake in Berea. Anglers aged 4 to 8 will fish from 9 a.m. to noon, with 9- to 15-year-olds getting their chance from 1-4 p.m. Each session includes some basic fishing techniques and fishing derby contests. Kids can also learn how to cast and test their skills at the casting challenge area. There will be plenty of free coaching and fishing guidance from seasoned anglers, too. Prizes will be awarded in each session for the largest trout, largest other fish caught, smallest fish caught and best cast at the casting challenge. Cleveland Metroparks to host competition in Strongsville
See how you stack up to other area riders and challenge yourself with the new Cleveland Metroparks "Mountain Bike Race Series" this June. In this off-road time trial, racers 14 and older will complete one lap on marked single track at the new Royalview Trail in Mill Stream Run Reservation. Classes will be broken into men, women, beginners, advanced and youth. The youth and beginner women's course will be around 5 miles, while the other course will be about 7 miles. The Mountain Bike Race Series is on Tuesday nights in June. They will take place from 6-9 p.m. June 4, 11 and 18. If necessary, June 25 is a rain date. Cleveland Metroparks has event in Strongsville
Ever seen the mating dance of the American woodcock? Now's your chance. Join Cleveland Metroparks naturalist John Miller Friday, April 12 at Royalview Picnic Area in Strongsville to experience the spectacular flight of this woodland sandpiper and learn what he hopes to accomplish with his peenting, twittering and chirping. Park program has fun activities for children 12 and under
Looking to keep the kids busy with fun nature-related activities? Cleveland Metroparks Kids Club offers things like campfires, fishing, hiking, crafts, puppets, birding and zoo programs. Cleveland Metroparks will demonstrate how to make a fire without matches
Cleveland Metroparks invites kids and adults to W.J. Green Lodge in Mill Stream Run Reservation from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 27 to learn how to make a fire. Naturalist Sharon Hosko will demonstrate various methods of making fire including flint and steel, bow drill and hand drill. This program is for children 10 and older with an adult. Cleveland Metroparks offers kids-only holiday shop
Kids can buy gifts for the family at the EarthWords "Chickadee Nest: The 6th Annual Kids-Only Holiday Shop" on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hinckley Lake Boathouse & Store. Children and parents are greeted at the door by the volunteer "shopping elves," who help the kids select gifts. Some of the presents they can choose include mugs, jewelry, flashlights, key chains, packets of tea or coffee and stuffed animals. All of the gifts are under $10, and most are under $5. While the kids are shopping, parents browse the EarthWords shops. Each parent gets a discount coupon, too. After the kids finish shopping, they can enjoy milk and cookies while a helper adds up the total and wraps and labels the presents. …
