Snapshot: Spring is Blooming...Early?
Manager at Petitti Garden Center says the warm winter is causing some bulbs to bloom early.
Not only have the last few days felt like spring, but now that some flowers - including the crocuses in my back yard - are starting to bloom, it's starting to look like spring, too. But isn't mid-March a little early? I always thought April showers brought May flowers. Petitti Garden Center annuals manager Christine Suchy said this year's first batch of blooming bulbs, including crocuses and perennial violas, are indeed early bloomers, thanks to the unusually warm winter. "Usually they wouldn't start popping until the end of March," she said. "And that is due to the warmer season we've had."
