Remember: Dogs Must be Licensed by Jan. 31

There are 2 locations in Strongsville, or apply online to keep your pup legal in 2013

  Cuyahoga County dog licenses are on sale now. Dog owners can buy a 2013 license online or in person at a number of locations. Dogs must be licensed by Jan. 31. Licenses are $20 each, but after Jan. 31, there will be a late fee of $20. To buy yours online, click here. There are also more than 25 locations, including Cuyahoga Landmark and Discount Drug Mart, both on Prospect Road, where you can purchase one in person for a 75-cent surcharge.

Third-Grader at Chapman Wins Top Dog Award for Her Pet

County issues first dog licenses to winners of essay contest

A Chapman Elementary School student won one of the first 2012 dog licenses for her dog, Lola, in Cuyahoga County's Top Dog essay contest. Kaylee Harris, a third-grader, was among the top five essays chosen. Koko, a rescue dog from Brook Park, was recognized as Cuyahoga County’s overall Top Dog in the contest, which was open to kids in grades 1-5. Koko was issued Cuyahoga County Dog License No. 1 – the first license of the year issued by the county Fiscal Office to any dog for 2012 – on the strength of a short essay written by Brookview Elementary School first grader Troy Schick. Don't Forget to Get Fido a License

Dog owners can face late charges if they wait till after Jan. 31 to renew

It's time do get a new dog license for your furry best friend, and the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer has set up several ways to buy one. Costs range from $16-$20 with the majority of the proceeds going to the Cuyahoga County Animal shelter. They can be purchased online at http://fiscalofficer.cuyahogacounty.us.  Or, if Fido needs a little fresh air, the fiscal office has nearly 30 participating walk-in locations around Cuyahoga County, according to the local government web site.  Click here for the complete set of listings.  The law requires that licenses be renewed each year from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31, starting with pups that are at least three months old.
